Bernard Estardy

Bernard Estardy was a French musical maestro whose expertise behind the mixing desk and on various instruments made him a central figure in the European music scene, particularly from the 1960s through to the early 2000s. Born on November 19, 1939, Estardy's career took off as the in-house engineer at the famed Studio CBE in Paris, where he influenced the sound of countless recordings by prominent artists of the time. His work as a session musician, sound engineer, and producer saw him contribute to the shaping of French pop music, also known as "yé-yé".

Beyond his role in mainstream music, Estardy was an avid experimenter, as evidenced by his various solo releases that spanned genres including library music, electronic sounds, and psychedelia. His personal projects such as "Electro Sounds Vol. 2", "La formule du baron", and "Piano Et Orgues" showcase his unique blend of sounds, utilizing synthesizers and keyboards to create textures that were ahead of their time. The compilation "Space Oddities (1970-1982)" offers a window into his creative process with its collection of quirky, atmospheric tracks that solidify his legacy as a pioneer in the field of electronic music. Since his passing in 2006, retrospective releases like "Fragments d'une empreinte magnétique (Rares 1966-2006)" continue to reveal the breadth of his contributions to music over four decades. Bernard Estardy's inventive nature and his flair for melding the technical with the musical mark him as an enduring figure in the world of sound engineering and composition.
