Svetla Protich is a renowned Bulgarian classical pianist and professor of music, born on July 24, 1939, in Sofia. She began her piano studies at the age of five under Prof. Dimitar Nenov and gave her first solo recital at just eight years old. Protich graduated with honors from the Sofia Conservatory of Music and later earned her master's degree at the Bucharest Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Florica Musicescu. She has had a distinguished career as a concert pianist, performing as a soloist with the Sofia Philharmony and other orchestras around the world, including appearances in the USSR, France, Italy, and the United States. Notably, she made her solo debut at London's Wigmore Hall in 1981.
Protich is currently a professor of piano music at Doshisha Women's College of Liberal Arts in Kyoto, Japan, where she continues to perform actively. Her achievements include winning first place in several competitions, including an international competition in Moscow, and being awarded the prestigious Artist Emeritus title by the Bulgarian government. She has also served as a jury member in various international competitions and has recorded works by composers such as Mozart, Schubert, and Tchaikovsky with labels like Harmonia Mundi and Nimbus Records.
