Kirill Karabits

Kirill Karabits is a Ukrainian conductor known for his dynamic presence on the podium and for bringing a fresh perspective to classical and lesser-known orchestral works. He rose to international attention as the Principal Conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, a role he's held since 2009, becoming the first Ukrainian to head a major UK orchestra. Karabits is especially admired for his championing of Eastern European composers, often uncovering hidden gems from Armenia, Ukraine, and Russia, and bringing them to a wider audience through performances and recordings.

In addition to his work in the UK, Karabits has conducted leading orchestras around the world, including the Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, and the Vienna Philharmonic. His recordings—ranging from Shostakovich and Liszt to lesser-known symphonies by Avet Terterian—highlight his deep curiosity and commitment to expanding the orchestral repertoire. With a bold but thoughtful approach to music-making, Karabits continues to build a reputation as a versatile and visionary conductor.
