Israel Philharmonic Orchestra

The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO) is a symbol of musical excellence and cultural tradition in Israel and has been since its inception. Founded in 1936 by violinist Bronislaw Huberman, the orchestra was initially established as an artistic sanctuary for Jewish musicians fleeing European persecution during the rise of Nazi Germany. Its inaugural concert, conducted by celebrated maestro Arturo Toscanini, set the tone for the orchestra's illustrious future. The IPO quickly garnered an international reputation for its passionate performances and has since been led by a pantheon of the world's most esteemed conductors, including Zubin Mehta, who served as its Music Director for Many years.

Throughout its history, the IPO has displayed an unwavering commitment to presenting a diverse, rich repertoire, as is evident from their recent releases that span across various time periods and styles. The orchestra has collaborated with a multitude of eminent soloists and conductors, as seen in recordings like "Martha Argerich Performs Beethoven and Ravel," showcasing the virtuosity of renowned pianist Martha Argerich. Their dedication to both classic and modern compositions is also reflected in releases such as "Bernstein & Mahler: Perfect Match," and "Noam Sheriff: Revival of the Dead & Genesis (Live)," highlighting their versatility and engagement with contemporary Israeli music. The Israel Philharmonic continues to be an ambassador of Israeli culture around the globe while also striving to inspire new audiences with its superb artistry.
