Aura Noir is a Norwegian black/thrash metal band known for their aggressive and unapologetically raw sound. Formed in 1993 by Aggressor (Carl-Michael Eide) and Apollyon (Ole Jørgen Moe), the band quickly made a name for themselves in the underground metal scene with a blend of black metal's bleakness and the energetic riffing of thrash. Their musical style gravitates towards the early extremes of metal, reminiscent of the genre's gritty and chaotic beginnings.
The band's debut EP, "Dreams Like Deserts," released in 1995, garnered attention for its ferocity and no-frills production. With aural assaults like "Black Thrash Attack" (1996), their first full-length album, Aura Noir established a cult following among metal enthusiasts. Over the years, the band has maintained a consistent output of high-octane releases with albums such as "Deep Tracts of Hell" (1998), "The Merciless" (2004), and "Hades Rise" (2008), further solidifying their status in the metal community. Even after a hiatus following Aggressor's accident in 2005, the band returned with a vengeance in albums like "Out to Die" (2012), and their self-titled opus "Aura Noire" (2018), which saw the band continuing to deliver their signature blend of menacing riffs and thrash-paced drumming. With a discography defined by a relentless barrage of aggressive rhythms and a no-compromise attitude, Aura Noir remains a stalwart pillar in the extreme metal genre, evidenced by their latest battle cry, "Belligerent 'Til Death."
