Ray Smith

Ray Smith was an American rockabilly singer, best remembered for his energetic performances and recordings during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Born on October 30, 1934, in Melber, Kentucky, Smith's passion for music started at a young age. His career took a significant turn when he signed with Sun Records, the legendary Memphis label that also launched the careers of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis, among others.

Although not achieving the same level of fame as some of his Sun Records contemporaries, Ray Smith left a notable mark on the rockabilly scene with his distinctive voice and charismatic stage presence. One of his most celebrated recordings is "Rockin' Little Angel," which became a hit in 1959. Over the years, Smith continued to perform and record music, dabbling in various styles, including country and gospel. His work, such as "Rocking Bandit," "Right Behind You Baby," and the compilation "The Legendary Sun Classics," reflect the ongoing interest in his music, which mixes rockabilly's raw energy with an undercurrent of blues and country twang. Ray Smith's legacy lives on through his recordings, cherished by rockabilly enthusiasts and music historians as an authentic piece of Americana.
