Taste was a blues rock band formed in Cork, Ireland, in 1966. The group was founded by Rory Gallagher, the lead vocalist and guitarist who would later go on to enjoy a storied solo career. Originally a trio, the band's classic lineup consisted of Rory Gallagher, Richard McCracken on bass guitar, and John Wilson on drums. Taste quickly made a name for themselves within the UK's burgeoning blues and rock scenes with their energetic performances and Gallagher's distinctive guitar prowess.
Although their time together was relatively short, Taste released two studio albums that captured their intense blend of blues, rock, and jazz influences. Their self-titled debut album, "Taste," was released in 1969, followed by "On The Boards" in 1970, showcasing the band's growing musical sophistication and Gallagher's songwriting. Despite their rising profile and critically acclaimed live shows, Taste disbanded in 1970. However, their legacy lived on through live recordings, with "Live Taste" and "Live At The Isle Of Wight" both offering a glimpse of the band's dynamic stage presence. "What's Going On; Isle Of Wight Festival 1970" is a notable release as well, capturing one of their final performances at a pivotal moment for the festival scene. Taste's music continues to influence a generation of musicians, with Rory Gallagher's guitar skills particularly celebrated for their impact on the rock and blues genres.
