Motor City Drum Ensemble is the musical persona of Danilo Plessow, a renowned German DJ and producer. Born in 1985 in a small town in rural southern Germany, Danilo moved to Stuttgart, which inspired his moniker due to its connection to the automotive industry and its nickname as Germany's 'Motor City.' He began playing drums at the age of six and developed a passion for jazz, soul, funk, hip hop, and house music. Danilo's career took off with his project Inverse Cinematics before he founded Motor City Drum Ensemble. In 2008, he gained significant attention with his 'Raw Cuts' series, which revolutionized the deep house genre with its warm, crackly sound. His work is deeply rooted in vinyl culture, and he is celebrated for his eclectic sound that blends deep house, float house, future garage, and microhouse genres.

Danilo's breakthrough came with his contribution to the DJ Kicks series in 2011, which solidified his reputation as a leading figure in electronic music.
