October Tide is a Swedish melodic death/doom metal band with a notable lineage in the genre, formed in 1995 by Katatonia members Jonas Renkse and Fredrik Norrman. Initially a side project for the two musicians, October Tide quickly garnered a dedicated following with their depressive and atmospheric approach to metal. Their debut album, "Rain Without End," was released in 1997 and set the tone for their signature sound, characterized by melancholic melodies and heavy riffs, interweaved with an ever-present overcast ambiance.
After a hiatus following their second album "Grey Dawn" in 1999, the band was reformed by Norrman in 2009, with a shifting lineup that has continued to evolve the project's sound. October Tide's later releases, such as "A Thin Shell" (2010) and "Winged Waltz" (2016), display a continued dedication to their solemn and brooding musical narrative, while albums like "Tunnel Of No Light" (2013) and "In Splendor Below" (2019) showcase their ability to integrate a more dynamic range into their compositions, melding despair-laden lyrics with crushing instrumentation. Through their extensive catalog, including poignant tracks like "I, The Polluter" and "The Cancer Pledge," October Tide has solidified their reputation within the doom metal scene as purveyors of deep, emotional turbulence conveyed through their music.
