Lester Flatt

Lester Flatt was a legendary bluegrass guitarist and vocalist, best known as one half of the groundbreaking duo Flatt & Scruggs. Born in Tennessee, Flatt's warm, smooth vocals and steady rhythm guitar playing were key elements in shaping the classic bluegrass sound. He rose to fame alongside banjo virtuoso Earl Scruggs after both had performed with Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys, the group widely credited with inventing bluegrass music.

Together, Flatt & Scruggs formed the Foggy Mountain Boys in 1948, and their energetic performances and influential recordings brought bluegrass to a wider audience, including their iconic rendition of “Foggy Mountain Breakdown.” After parting ways with Scruggs in 1969, Flatt went on to form the Nashville Grass, continuing to perform and record well into the 1970s. His contributions helped establish bluegrass as a distinct and enduring genre, earning him a place in the hearts of fans and a lasting legacy in American music history.
