Catharsis

Catharsis is a Russian band that has been active since 1996. Initially, they started as a gothic/death/doom metal band, but over time, they evolved into a neoclassical power metal group. The band was founded in Moscow by guitarist Igor Polyakov and vocalist Sergey Bendrikov. In their early years, Catharsis explored darker sounds, but with albums like "Febris Erotica," they transitioned towards symphonic metal, gaining recognition in Russian music circles. Oleg "Mission" Mishin joined the band in 2002, becoming a key songwriter, and many of their lyrics were penned by the poet Margarita Pushkina. In 2006, Catharsis won the Russian Alternative Music Prize as the best Russian metal band. Current members include Oleg Zhilyakov on vocals, Oleg Mishin on guitar, and Julia Red on keyboards, among others.

Catharsis is known for releasing albums in both Russian and English, showcasing their versatility. Recent releases include "Книга Времён. Будущее Прошлого," "Алый Король," and "Крылья," continuing their tradition of blending complex sounds with powerful storytelling. Their music often explores themes of introspection and emotional depth, reflecting their cathartic name. Throughout their career, Catharsis has maintained a strong presence in the Russian metal scene and continues to produce music that resonates with fans of power metal worldwide.
