Marina Rossell

Marina Rossell i Figueras, known professionally as Marina Rossell, is a celebrated Catalan folk singer and songwriter born on January 17, 1954, in Castellet i la Gornal near Barcelona, Spain. Her music, deeply rooted in the Catalan tradition, has also been influenced by various Mediterranean sounds. She sings primarily in Catalan and Spanish but has also performed in French, English, and Galician.

Rossell's career has spanned several decades, during which she has become known for her distinctive voice and commitment to social causes. Particularly noteworthy is her tribute to the Greek-French singer-songwriter Georges Moustaki, producing multiple albums such as "Marina Rossell Canta Moustaki" and its sequels, including live performance recordings like "Marina Rossell Tribut a Moustaki (Directe al Teatre Grec Barcelona 2014)." Aside from her admiration for Moustaki, her work has lightly touched upon themes of resistance and historical memory, evident in albums like "Cançons de la resistència" and her rendition of "Bella Ciao," an Italian partisan song. Rossell has continually endeared herself to audiences seeking a blend of contemporary music with traditional Catalan and international folk influences.
