Cynefin

Cynefin is the creative vision of Owen Shiers, a Welsh folk singer, researcher, grain grower, and cultural historian. Born in West Wales, Shiers is deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of Ceredigion, where he grew up. His music project, Cynefin, began as a musical mapping endeavor, aiming to capture the essence of his native region through song. His debut album, *Dilyn Afon* (Following A River), released in 2020, received critical acclaim, with The Guardian praising him as "a stunning new talent." Cynefin's music is characterized by its connection to folk traditions, including the *beirdd gwlad* (folk poet) tradition, and explores themes of culture, language, and the natural world.

Cynefin's latest work includes the forthcoming album *Shimli*, which continues to delve into the cultural vernacular of Ceredigion. The album is inspired by the now obsolete West Walian practice of all-night musical and poetic vigils, known as *shimli*. It reflects Shiers' commitment to preserving Welsh language and culture, blending music, poetry, and storytelling to create a unique and compelling sound.
