Mr. Sun

Mr. Sun is a collective ensemble of virtuoso string players deeply rooted in the traditions of bluegrass, folk, and Americana music. The band features the legendary fiddler Darol Anger, a pioneer in the progressive string world for over 40 years, who has played with ensembles like the Turtle Island String Quartet and the David Grisman Quintet. Alongside Anger, Mr. Sun comprises standout talents: mandolinist Joe K. Walsh, known for his work with the Gibson Brothers; guitar aficionado Grant Gordy, who has made his mark playing with the legendary David Grisman; and bassist and composer Aidan O'Donnell, adding his rich, jazz-informed grasp on the double bass.

Their music is a refreshing fusion of joyous folk energy and sophisticated jazz improvisation, crafted with technical finesse and a deep musical camaraderie. With their recent releases like "Overture" and "Sugared Rum? Spare Me! (Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy)", Mr. Sun has displayed a penchant for reimagining traditional melodies with their own twist of contemporary flair and complex arrangements. Tracks such as "Pea Shooter Parade (March)" showcase the band's ability to interweave intricate melodic lines with playful rhythms, while "Extrovert" and "Breaker's Bakedown" highlight their seamless communication and unified group dynamics. "Let's Go See The Sunrise" and "The People Need Light" capture the optimistic spirit and reflective essence that truly encapsulate the heart of Mr. Sun's music. With each release, Mr. Sun solidifies their role not just as skilled musicians but as modern-day storytellers, lighting the way with strings that sing and harmonies that bring tradition to life.
