Rheinische Kantorei

The Rheinische Kantorei is a distinguished chamber choir located in the historic region of the Rhineland in Germany. Founded in 1972 by conductor Hermann Max, the choir quickly established a reputation for its precise and sensitive performances of Baroque music, though its repertoire spans from early music to contemporary works. The ensemble is known for its commitment to historically informed performance practices, often joining forces with the instrumental group Das Kleine Konzert to bring new life to lesser-known works of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Over the years, the Rheinische Kantorei has recorded extensively, tackling a variety of composers and styles. This versatility is apparent in recent releases that include "Bach, Caldara & Kuhnau: Magnificat", featuring grand choral compositions of the Baroque period, as well as a series titled "Classical Slumber Time For Children", aimed at introducing the youngest listeners to the soothing qualities of classical music. The ensemble also demonstrates its depth and scholarly approach to repertory with albums such as "C.P.E. Bach: Sacred Choral Music" and "Telemann: Sacred Choral Music", highlighting their skill in interpreting the music of these celebrated German composers. The Rheinische Kantorei continues to contribute significantly to the field of choral music, noted for their polished sound and engaging interpretations of complex musical works.
