DJ Marfox, a pivotal figure in the Lisbon underground music scene, has been instrumental in pioneering the distinctive sound known as batida, which is characterized by an energetic blend of African rhythms, techno, and kuduro. Marfox (a stage name that combines "Mar" from his given name, Marlon, and "Fox," referencing the Star Fox video game series he enjoyed as a child) rose to prominence with his innovative beats and has since become a central figure in the Príncipe Discos label, well-known for showcasing Afro-Portuguese music.
Born and raised in the neighborhood of Quinta do Mocho in Lisbon, Marfox's early exposure to Angolan music and dance culture, as well as electronic genres during his adolescence, heavily influenced his eclectic production style. His career gained momentum with the release of the "Eu Sei Quem Sou" EP in 2011, and further established his international reputation with subsequent releases such as "Chapa Quente," "Lucky Punch," and the "Subliminar" EP. Not confined to studio recordings, DJ Marfox is also recognized for his passionate DJ sets, which reflect his commitment to using music as a tool for cultural expression and social empowerment. Through remixes like "Carmy (DJ Marfox Remix)" and original tracks, Marfox continues to push the envelope, ensuring that the vibrant sounds of the Lisbon scene reach ears across the globe.
