Saccharine Trust

Saccharine Trust is an American punk rock band established in 1980, carving its place in the underground music scene with its unique blend of experimental punk and spoken word. Hailing from the South Bay region of Los Angeles, the band was initially forged through the creative partnership of singer Jack Brewer and guitarist Joe Baiza, who together became known for their penchant for blending poetic lyrics with unpredictable, jazz-infused guitar work. They quickly became associated with the influential SST Records, a label known for its roster of revolutionary punk bands like Black Flag and Minutemen.

The band's first EP, "Paganicons," released in 1981, was a stark statement of their esoteric sound—a raw and intense record that showcased their unconventional song structures and lyrical depth. This debut was followed by the more expansive full-length albums "Surviving You, Always" (1984) and "We Became Snakes" (1985), which further defined the band's artistic trajectory with their complex interplay of verbal and instrumental narratives. Saccharine Trust went on hiatus following "We Became Snakes," but the members would sporadically regroup, resulting in the live recording "Past Lives" (1989), which featured older material, and the album "Worldbroken" (1996) that continued to exhibit their experimental and improvisational ethos. Despite their scattered discography and underground status, Saccharine Trust is revered for their uncompromising vision and influential contributions to the post-hardcore and avant-punk genres.
