R. Suryaprakash is a renowned Carnatic vocalist, composer, and lyricist from Chennai, India. He began his musical journey at the age of seven under the tutelage of his uncle Tirukkodikaval Shri V. Rajamani and later studied with Shri M. A. Venugopalan, both disciples of the legendary Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer. Suryaprakash further advanced his skills with Sangeetha Kalanidhi T. V. Sankaranarayanan and collaborated with notable musicologists like Smt. Sulochana Pattabiraman and Dr. V. V. Srivatsa. He holds a master's degree and a Ph.D. in Carnatic music from Madras University, having completed his thesis on a structured approach to manodharma (improvisation) in Carnatic music.
As a performer, R. Suryaprakash is celebrated for his mesmerizing voice, often described as having a "ringing" quality, with a three-octave range and crystal-clear tonal purity. His concerts are highly sought after at festivals both in India and internationally. He is an 'A Grade' artist of All India Radio and has received several accolades, including the Kalaimamani award from the Government of Tamil Nadu in 2019. His recent releases include compositions like "Sri Rush Kshethram" and "Shining Pearls Of Swati Tirunal," showcasing his broad musical repertoire.
