Jazz Q

Jazz Q is a pioneering Czech jazz fusion band formed in 1969 by keyboardist and composer Martin Kratochvíl. Known for blending jazz with rock, psychedelic, and avant-garde influences, they became a cornerstone of Czechoslovakia’s progressive music scene. Their experimental sound—featuring electric piano, sax, and Kratochvíl’s inventive compositions—earned them a cult following, especially during the 1970s and 1980s. Live recordings like *Live Plzeň 1980* and *Živí se diví: Live in Bratislava 1975* capture their improvisational energy, while studio works such as *Talisman* and *Zvěsti* showcase their genre-defying creativity. Despite lineup changes and political constraints of the era, Jazz Q’s legacy endures through reissues like *Jazz Q - Komplet* and archival releases, cementing their status as Czech jazz innovators.
