Olaf Tzschoppe is a renowned German percussionist and chamber musician, born in 1962 in Kiel, Germany. He studied percussion at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg and later at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, with a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Tzschoppe is best known for his work with the Percussions de Strasbourg, Ensemble SurPlus, and Trio SurPlus, among others. He has premiered numerous compositions written specifically for him and frequently collaborates with other artists in interdisciplinary projects. His particular interest lies in the combination of organ and percussion, with several works written for him and organist Zsigmond Szathmáry.
As a professor since 2004, Tzschoppe teaches percussion and chamber music at the University of the Arts Bremen. His career spans a wide range of musical genres, from classical to improvised music. He has performed with prominent ensembles like Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Modern, and Ensemble Musikfabrik, and regularly tours internationally. Some of his notable compositions include arrangements such as *Pictures of an Exhibition* and *A Night on Bald Mountain* for organ and percussion.
