Pinback

Pinback is an indie rock band hailing from San Diego, California, that has been weaving intricate melodies and richly textured arrangements since their formation in 1998. The band was initially conceived as a side project by its two core members, Rob Crow, known for his work with the heavy rock band Thingy, and Armistead Burwell Smith IV (also known as Zach Smith), who earned recognition with his experimental post-hardcore band Three Mile Pilot. Pinback stands out for their use of interlocking guitar work, introspective lyrics, and a melodic bass-heavy backdrop.

Over the years, Pinback has cultivated a loyal fanbase through the release of several critically acclaimed albums. "Summer in Abaddon," released in 2004, is among their most celebrated works and received a 15th-anniversary edition, attesting to the album's enduring appeal. Their discography showcases the band's evolution from the lo-fi charms of "Blue Screen Life" in 2001 to the nuanced and polished soundscapes of "Information Retrieved" in 2012. Despite never achieving mainstream popularity, Pinback's consistently high-quality output has kept them as cherished stalwarts within the indie music scene. With live performances that often reinterpret their studio perfection with an organic edge, as captured on the "Clemenceau" release, Pinback continues to demonstrate their mastery of crafting thoughtful and emotive music that resonates with fans across generations.
