M is actually a British new wave and synth-pop band led by Robin Scott, also known as "M". Scott is a singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer who formed the band in 1978. The band is best known for their 1979 hit single "Pop Muzik", which reached the top 10 in several countries including the US and the UK.
Although the band's popularity declined somewhat after the early 1980s, Scott continued to release music under the M moniker, incorporating a wide range of styles into his work, including Latin and world music influences.
