Jewlia Eisenberg

Jewlia Eisenberg was a fiercely innovative vocalist, composer, and cultural activist best known as the frontwoman and creative force behind the experimental ensemble Charming Hostess. Her work brilliantly merged radical politics, Jewish diasporic traditions, and avant-garde music, often drawing from sources like Babylonian chants, Talmudic texts, and feminist theory. With albums like Trilectic and Eat, Eisenberg explored everything from love and revolution to secret Yiddish songs from Sarajevo.

Beyond her role in Charming Hostess, Eisenberg's solo and collaborative projects positioned her at the intersection of music, spirituality, and social justice. Deeply invested in using art to explore identity and resistance, she created uniquely textured soundscapes using voice, body percussion, and unexpected instrumentation. Her untimely passing in 2021 was a major loss to the experimental and Jewish music communities, but her adventurous spirit and groundbreaking work continue to inspire.
