The Members are a British punk band formed in Camberley, Surrey, England, in 1976. They gained recognition with their distinctive blend of punk rock and reggae influences, which was relatively unique for the UK punk scene at the time. Their best-known hit is "The Sound of the Suburbs," released in 1979, which captured the spirit of suburban youth and became a Top 20 single in the UK. The band was started by lyricist and vocalist Nicky Tesco along with key members like Jean-Marie Carroll (guitar and vocals) and Chris Payne (bass), who contributed to the reggae-infused style that became a trademark for them.
Throughout their career, The Members recorded several albums including *At the Chelsea Nightclub* and *1980 – The Choice Is Yours* (later released as *Going West*). Despite never achieving widespread mainstream fame, they developed a dedicated following and were known for their energetic live performances and smart, socially aware lyrics. After disbanding in the early 1980s, they reunited in 2007 and have continued to play and release new music, maintaining their distinctive punk-reggae sound that first made them stand out in the late '70s punk movement.
