Born in Bratislava in 1946, she rose to fame in the 1970s with iconic roles like Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor and Zerbinetta in Strauss’s *Ariadne auf Naxos*—both featured in her recent live recordings. Her career spanned over five decades, enchanting audiences at top opera houses like Vienna State Opera and the Metropolitan Opera with her crystalline high notes and fearless interpretations of demanding roles in works by Verdi (*La traviata*, *Rigoletto*), Bellini, and Mozart.

Gruberová’s artistry extended beyond opera to lieder, showcased in releases like *Brahms, Dvořák & Strauss: Lieder*.
