Popundret is a Swedish band formed in 1991 by Martin Wiklund and Magnus Ericsson. Initially, they were joined by vocalist Marielle Nyström, and their sound was influenced by British bands like The Smiths, New Order, and The Primitives. The band started as an acoustic trio but soon expanded to include a drummer, David Johansson, and later Peter Eriksson on 12-string guitar. After Marielle left for England, the band was briefly inactive until they found a new vocalist, Magnus Nilsson, in 1993. With this lineup, they began performing again, starting with a gig at the Trästocksfestival, and went on to release their debut EP in 1994. Despite members being involved in other projects, Popundret continued to create music, driven by their love for traditional pop.
The band's history reflects a blend of indie and pop influences, with a strong connection to the Swedish music scene of the 1990s. Their music career has been marked by periods of activity and hiatus, but they remain notable for their unique sound and contributions to the Swedish pop landscape.
