Formed in June 2008 by Rowald van Baardwijk, Rick Diemeer, Jort van de Ven, and Lionn van der Horst, the band quickly made a name for themselves in the local music scene. Initially performing in the Amsterdam area, they soon expanded their reach, touring the UK, Belgium, and Germany. Their lineup currently includes Rowald van Baardwijk on vocals, Jort van de Ven on guitar and vocals, Rick Diemeer on bass, and Koen Fakkeldij on drums, who joined in 2009.

Known for their energetic live performances and socially engaged lyrics, Sweet Empire has become a staple in the European punk scene, offering a sound that is both aggressive and melodic. Their music often reflects elements from 80's and 90's punk rock and hardcore, making them difficult to pin down to a single genre.
