Headscan is a Canadian electronic music duo known for their blend of futuristic beats and cybernetic themes, amalgamating elements of techno, industrial, and EBM (Electronic Body Music). Composed of Claude Charnier and Christian Pomerleau, the group emerged from the Montreal underground music scene in the late 1990s, quickly establishing themselves with their first full album, "Shaper and Mechanist" in 2001. The album's title references Bruce Sterling's sci-fi short story cycle of the same name, setting the tone for the band's sci-fi influenced aesthetic.
Following their strong debut, Headscan continued to captivate their audience with a series of releases that further developed their signature sound—complex electronic layers paired with vocoded vocals and immersive narratives. "Pattern Recognition," released in 2005, pushed the boundaries of their production and compositional skills, becoming a well-received album that solidified their position in the industrial-techno crossover niche. With subsequent EPs like "Dead Silver Sky" and the "Lolife" series, the duo expanded on their dark, danceable tracks, deepening the atmospheric and thematic exploration of a dystopian future. Though not prolific in quantity, Headscan's work remains influential and admired within their genre for its precise production and conceptual depth.
