Antonio Tormo

Antonio Tormo was an iconic Argentine folk singer whose earthy, heartfelt voice made him a beloved figure in Latin American música criolla. Born in Mendoza in 1913, Tormo became known as the "Cantor de los Caburés" (Singer of the People) for his working-class anthems and traditional zambas, milongas, and chamamés. His 1950 hit "Milonga del peón de campo" became a cultural touchstone—and briefly got banned by the Perón government for its raw depiction of rural struggles!

Though he started performing in the 1930s with groups like Cuarteto Mendoza, Tormo’s career spanned decades, with later generations rediscovering his music through reissues like the *Zorzales de Antaño* series. These releases, including remastered gems like *Anahí*, showcase his knack for storytelling through Argentina’s folk traditions. Even after his death in 2003, Tormo’s music remains a cozy campfire singalong for fans of authentic South American roots music.
