ARI TSUGI

ARI TSUGI is a dynamic eight-piece band rooted in the Glasgow jazz scene, known for blending psychedelic rock influences with jazz improvisation and world music elements. The group originated about four years ago from a jam session among core members Clement Gaud (French), Joe Weisberg, and Mashu Harada (Japanese), who bonded musically during their time at the Glasgow School of Art. Over time, the band expanded to include a variety of musicians with diverse artistic backgrounds, such as sculptors, painters, and researchers, which enriches their unique and eclectic sound. Their music often reflects themes of nature and life’s cycles, illustrated in their concept album *Simultaneity (同時性)*, which explores the passage through life's seasons with a spiritual and philosophical edge. They have gained strong support from major UK radio stations like BBC 6Music and Jazz FM and have performed at notable venues and festivals, including multiple appearances at Glastonbury Festival and tours across Europe.

Their sound is characterized by multi-instrumental arrangements with vocals, flute, cello, and more, creating a rich tapestry that invites both improvisation and structured composition. Their releases include *Simultaneity*, *Haru (春)*, *Corrida (Bateau)*, and others that showcase their blend of jazz, psychedelia, and global rhythms. The band is signed to Rebecca’s Records, a Glasgow-based label, and is known for engaging live performances that often feature both rehearsed and improvised sets. Their work has attracted attention for its thoughtful fusion of jazz sophistication and psychedelic energy, making them one of the more innovative and exciting collectives on the contemporary jazz and experimental music scene.
