Wilko Johnson

Wilko Johnson is a seminal figure in the British R&B and pub rock scene, best known as the original guitarist for the influential band Dr. Feelgood. Born on July 12, 1947, in Canvey Island, Essex, England, as John Peter Wilkinson, he adopted his stage name 'Wilko Johnson' and forged a path that would see him become an icon of the choppy, percussive guitar style that became a hallmark of Dr. Feelgood's sound, helping to catalyze the punk movement. His aggressive, staccato playing technique, often utilizing a Fender Telecaster, set him apart from his contemporaries and influenced countless musicians.

After splitting from Dr. Feelgood in the late 70s, Johnson continued his musical career forming the Wilko Johnson Band, and later collaborated with The Blockheads, the band of the late Ian Dury. With a career that has weathered the tumultuous changes in the music industry, Wilko Johnson has remained a revered figure, producing solo albums that capture his undiminished fire and raw energy. His later works, including "Going Back Home" (2014), a collaboration with Roger Daltrey, and his solo effort "Blow Your Mind" (2018), reflect the enduring nature of his talent. Despite a public battle with pancreatic cancer, which he remarkably overcame, Johnson has continued to perform and record, exemplifying the resiliency and passion that have defined his life as much as his distinctive guitar riffs. His music, including tracks like "That’s The Way I Love You," and albums such as "RED HOT ROCKING BLUES" and "Barbed Wire Blues," continues to inspire and entertain fans across generations.
