Anti-Pasti

Anti-Pasti is a notable punk rock band that formed in Derby, England in 1978, emerging from the burgeoning punk movement that swept across the UK following the rise of bands like the Sex Pistols and The Clash. The group's name, a play on the Italian hors d'oeuvre "antipasto," reflects their punk sensibility – a mix of irreverent attitude and social commentary. Anti-Pasti was brought together by founding members Martin Roper (vocals), Dugi Bell (guitar), Stu Winfield (bass), and Stan Smith (drums), though the lineup would evolve over the years.

The band quickly established itself within the punk scene with their high-energy performances and politically charged lyrics. Their 1981 debut album, "The Last Call," placed them on the punk map with anthemic songs and a raw, uncompromising sound that captured the restlessness and disenchantment of youth. Anti-Pasti was part of the second wave of punk, often associated with the UK82 movement, which saw bands adopting a faster, more aggressive style. They disbanded in 1983 but left a lasting impression on the punk scene. They eventually reunited to the delight of their fans, releasing "Rise Up" in 2016 after a lengthy hiatus. The band's most recent release, a compilation entitled "1980-83," captures the vital years of their early career, while "Caution In The Wind" features some of their later material, a testament to their enduring influence in the punk genre.
