John Jorgenson

John Jorgenson, born on July 6, 1956, is an American musician celebrated for his virtuosic guitar work and his fluency in multiple genres, including rock, jazz, bluegrass, and country. A multi-instrumentalist, he is also adept on the mandolin, saxophone, clarinet, and pedal steel guitar. Perhaps best known for his guitar playing, Jorgenson has been a pioneer in popularizing the gypsy jazz genre, adopted from the legendary Django Reinhardt, whom Jorgenson has cited as a significant influence on his style.

Jorgenson gained prominence in the 1980s as a part of the country-rock band The Desert Rose Band, where he showcased not only his impressive guitar chops but also his skills as a vocalist and songwriter. In the 1990s, he co-founded the guitar trio The Hellecasters and enjoyed a successful tenure as a six-year member of Elton John's touring band. An acclaimed session musician, Jorgenson has worked with a broad array of noteworthy artists across various musical landscapes. His contributions to gypsy jazz have been particularly impactful; he's played a seminal role in both reviving interest in the genre and pushing its boundaries. His later works, including "Worldwide Christmas," "Divertuoso," "Gypsy Swing," "Emotional Savant," and "After You've Gone," reflect both his range as a musician and his commitment to expanding the gypsy jazz tradition while respecting its foundations. Through extensive touring with the John Jorgenson Quintet, he brings energetic and sophisticated gypsy jazz to audiences across the globe, maintaining his position as one of the torchbearers of the genre.
