Agostino Lazzari was an Italian operatic tenor born on November 11, 1919, in Sestri Ponente, Italy. His career was significantly delayed by World War II, but he made his debut in 1946 as Almaviva at the Teatro Regio in Parma. Lazzari's breakthrough came in 1950 when he won the AS.LI.CO contest. He went on to perform at major opera houses, including the Rome Opera Theater, the San Carlo in Naples, and the Comunale in Bologna. His repertoire included roles like Alfredo, Rodolfo, Nemorino, and Edgardo, as well as less common roles for Italian tenors such as Hoffmann and Belmonte. Lazzari also sang in various European cities and participated in numerous Italian radio broadcasts.
Lazzari's career spanned multiple decades, with notable performances and recordings throughout the 1950s and 1960s. He worked with prominent conductors and collaborated on significant opera productions. He passed away on January 28, 1981, in Sampierdarena, Italy. His legacy includes recordings such as "Rossini: Il turco in Italia" and performances of operas like "Werther" by Massenet.
