Deee-Lite was an influential dance music trio that emerged from the New York City club scene in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Made up of vocalist Lady Miss Kier (Kierin Magenta Kirby), DJ Dmitry (Dmitry Brill), and Jungle DJ Towa Tei (Dong-hwa Chung), the group combined elements of house, techno, funk, and hip-hop, wrapped up in a flamboyant and psychedelic visual style that became instantly recognizable. Their 1990 debut album, "World Clique," was a critical and commercial success, driven by the infectious single "Groove Is in the Heart" which featured guest appearances by Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest and legendary funk bassist Bootsy Collins. Deee-Lite's follow-up albums, "Infinity Within" released in 1992, and "Dewdrops in the Garden" in 1994, continued to push musical boundaries, blending social activism with euphoric beats, though they didn't replicate the massive success of their first album. Despite their relatively brief tenure as a group, Deee-Lite's influence on the dance music scene remains enduring, as their vision of a vibrant, global dance party continues to resonate with fans around the world.
