Psalm Zero

Psalm Zero is a darkly inventive experimental metal duo from New York City, formed in 2012 by vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Charlie Looker (Extra Life, Zs) and guitarist Andrew Hock (Castevet). Blending industrial grit with gothic atmosphere and avant-garde metal intensity, they carve out a sound that's as cerebral as it is visceral. Their work explores themes of existential dread, societal collapse, and personal turmoil through pulsing electronics, jagged riffs, and Looker's distinctive baritone vocals that ranges from haunting croons to primal screams.

Since their 2014 debut *The Drain*, they've evolved through releases like 2016's *Stranger to Violence* and the 2020 single *Sparta*, oscillating between icy synth-driven soundscapes and metallic fury. The 2019 EP *Atrocities* particularly showcases their knack for merging danceable industrial beats with doom-laden weight. While maintaining underground credibility, their genre-blurring approach has drawn comparisons to artists as varied as Godflesh and Depeche Mode, creating a shadowy niche all their own in NYC's experimental music scene.
