Electric Wurms

Electric Wurms is a psychedelic rock side project formed by members of The Flaming Lips, including frontman Wayne Coyne and multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd, along with members of the Nashville-based band Linear Downfall. The group delves into a more experimental and spacey sound than the already adventurous Flaming Lips, blending elements of prog rock, krautrock, and cosmic synth textures. Their debut mini-album, Musik, Die Schwer zu Twerk, released in 2014, showcases this far-out aesthetic with tracks that emphasize atmosphere, jamming grooves, and surreal vibes.

With covers like The Beatles' "Fixing a Hole" and Yes's "Heart of the Sunrise," Electric Wurms also pay homage to the psychedelic and progressive rock legends who influence their style. The band serves as an outlet for more spontaneous, improvisational creativity, and Wayne Coyne has described it as Kurt Cobain meets Yes. While Electric Wurms exists somewhat under the radar, it's a fascinating offshoot for fans of the Lips and anyone into trippy, genre-blending sounds.
