Crooked Man

**Crooked Man** is the moniker of **Richard Barratt**, a legendary Sheffield-based DJ and producer who's been shaping electronic music for nearly four decades. Barratt first made waves in the mid-'80s as DJ Parrot, bringing house and techno to British audiences through Sheffield's iconic Jive Turkey club. In the early '90s, he co-founded Sweet Exorcist with Cabaret Voltaire's Richard H. Kirk, helping pioneer the bleep techno sound and releasing the first CD on the influential Warp label in 1991. Throughout the '90s and 2000s, he scored hits with Funky Worm and the art-pop collective All Seeing I, then spent years working as a producer with artists like Roisin Murphy and Richard Hawley.

After stepping back from the spotlight, Barratt returned to making his own music in 2012 under the Crooked Man alias, crafting a distinctive blend of raw, back-to-basics house with pop-friendly vocals and hooks. His recent output showcases his signature maximalist house sound complemented by collaborations with powerful female vocalists like Amy Douglas and Roisin Murphy, proving he's lost none of his creative edge. Soulful, psychedelic, and defiant, Crooked Man's tracks remind listeners of everything that's beautiful about the dancefloor—a fitting legacy for one of Britain's most influential electronic music pioneers.
