Rough Trade was a Canadian new wave band that made waves in the early 1980s. Formed in Toronto in 1979, the group was fronted by charismatic lead singer Carole Pope, known for her powerful vocals and provocative stage presence. Alongside Pope, the band's core lineup included keyboardist Kevin Staples.
Rough Trade gained attention for their bold, sexually charged lyrics and energetic performances. They scored a major hit with their 1981 single "High School Confidential," which became an iconic song of the Canadian new wave scene. The band released several albums throughout their career, including "Avoid Freud" and "For Those Who Think Young," before eventually disbanding in the late 1980s.
