Alias

Alias, born Brendan Whitney, was an influential figure in the underground hip-hop and electronic music scenes, known for his innovative producing skills, genre-blending compositions, and intricate instrumentation. Rising to prominence in the early 2000s as part of the Anticon collective, his work seamlessly merged introspective indie sensibilities with the rhythmic complexity of left-field hip-hop, cultivating a distinctive sound that resonated with a diverse audience.

Throughout his career, Alias demonstrated a relentless pursuit of musical evolution, evident in the breadth of his discography. He released a wide array of albums that explored various soundscapes and moods, ranging from brooding, atmospheric instrumentals to collaboration-heavy projects. His later work, like "Forever Is Orchestra" and "Less Is Orchestra," showcased a maturation in his sound, infusing rich layers of live instrumentation into his electronic palette, while remixes for artists like WHY? highlighted his versatile approach to production. Sadly, Alias passed away in 2018, but he left behind a legacy of innovation and inspiration that continues to influence underground music scenes.
