Punch Brothers

Punch Brothers are an American band whose style deftly intertwines the threads of progressive bluegrass, classical, and indie folk. Formed in 2006 by mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile, the ensemble's lineup features equally formidable musicians in their respective fields: Gabe Witcher on the fiddle, Noam Pikelny on banjo, Chris Eldridge on guitar, and Paul Kowert on bass. The quintet is known for their technically intricate compositions, harmonious arrangements, and an innovative approach that challenges the boundaries of traditional bluegrass.

The band's career has seen a steady succession of critically acclaimed albums. Their third studio album, "Who's Feeling Young Now?" released in 2012, continued to build their reputation for intricate musical conversations that juxtapose heady musicianship with accessible melodies. This was followed by "The Phosphorescent Blues" in 2015, which touched on themes of technology and isolation in the modern world, further showcasing the band's philosophical lyrical bent. "All Ashore," released in 2018, earned them a Grammy for Best Folk Album, adding to their accolades and solidifying their status among the most innovative acts in contemporary folk. Their pursuit of pushing bluegrass traditions into new territories continued with the 2022 album "Hell on Church Street," a reinterpretation of the classic bluegrass album "Church Street Blues" by Tony Rice, proving their reverence for genre foundations while exploring new musical landscapes.
