Lorenzo Gatto
Lorenzo Gatto is a dynamic Belgian violinist known for his passionate interpretations and versatile approach to classical music. Born in 1986, he studied at the Brussels Conservatory and the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, later gaining international attention as a laureate of the 2009 Queen Elisabeth Competition. His discography reveals a deep affinity for Beethoven, with acclaimed cycles of the composer’s violin sonatas (partnered with Julien Libeer) and concerto recordings, alongside fresh takes on works by Bach, Ravel, and Mendelssohn.
Gatto’s collaborations range from intimate chamber settings (like the fiery Mendelssohn and Enescu octets) to bold projects such as *Black, White & in Between* – a contemporary work by Lawrence Power. A co-founder of the collective *Plug&Play* and frequent performer with *Les Dissonnances*, he blends technical precision with spontaneous energy. Whether revitalizing Baroque staples like the Goldberg Variations or exploring lesser-known concertos, Gatto’s playing radiates curiosity and warmth, cementing his reputation as a thoughtful yet exhilarating voice in today’s classical scene.
