The Drones

The Drones are an Australian rock band renowned for their raw and intense music style, which deftly blends elements of punk, blues, and garage rock into a distinctive sound that has captivated audiences both domestically and internationally. Formed in Perth in 1997, the band initially consisted of Gareth Liddiard on guitar and vocals, Rui Pereira on guitar, James McCann on bass guitar, and Christian Strybosch on drums. With several lineup changes over the years, the heart of the music remains tethered to Liddiard's evocative storytelling and the band’s propensity for frenetic, passionate performances.

Rising to prominence with their confrontational live shows and thought-provoking lyrics, The Drones established a solid following with the release of their debut album "Here Come the Lies" in 2002. They received widespread acclaim with their 2005 release, "Wait Long By the River and the Bodies of Your Enemies Will Float By," which showcased their raw energy and lyrical depth. The band continued to evolve and push boundaries over the years, with notable albums such as "Gala Mill," "Havilah," and "I See Seaweed." Their 2016 album, "Feelin Kinda Free," marked yet another shift in sound, adding an experimental edge to their music. Even when stepping away from the studio, The Drones maintain a reputation for sensational live performances, as captured in releases like "A Thousand Mistakes: Warehouse Sessions" and "LIVE [in Spaceland - November 15th, 2006]." Their musical influence and legacy is deeply etched into the modern Australian rock landscape, with their bold artistic ventures continuing to inspire new generations of musicians and fans alike.
