Second Image is a British jazz-funk band formed in the late 1970s by singer and drummer Georgie B (George Bromfield), his bass-playing brother Sam 'Junior' Bromfield, and close friend Frank Burke. Known for their smooth blend of jazz, funk, and soul, the band gained a following in the early 1980s, releasing several singles like "Dance Dance Dance," "Fall In Love," and "Special Lady." In 1983, they won a major TV talent show and released their debut self-titled album produced by notable names Roy Carter and Pete Wingfield. Their follow-up album, "Strange Reflections," came out in 1985 under MCA Records, featuring tracks such as "Don't You" and "Lights Out," the latter penned by Rod Temperton from Heatwave. Despite strong regional airplay and TV appearances on shows like The Old Grey Whistle Test, the group didn’t achieve widespread commercial success and eventually disbanded after six years of performing together.
However, the original seven members reunited in 2011 for a one-off gig celebrating Brit Funk's 30th anniversary, which was warmly received by fans. Georgie B later formed The Groove Association, a band that went on to win multiple awards including Soul Survivors Magazine’s Best Soul Album and Best Soul Artist/Group. Second Image remains respected for their contributions to the UK jazz-funk scene and their energetic performances that continue to delight audiences.
