Signe Lund (1868–1950) was a Norwegian composer and pianist known for her vibrant contributions to classical music, including orchestral works, chamber music, piano pieces, and songs. Born in Christiania (now Oslo), she grew up in a culturally rich environment and studied extensively with prominent teachers across Europe, including in Norway, Berlin, Copenhagen, Paris, and Vienna. Encouraged early on by Edvard Grieg, Lund pursued a challenging career as a female composer during the early 20th century. She emigrated to the United States around 1900, where she taught music and became actively involved in social and political causes, including women's rights and Norwegian-American relations. Her music, such as the Piano Pieces Op. 16 and Études Poétiques, continues to be celebrated, and her legacy is honored at festivals like Lund-dagene in Norway.
