Soulside

Soulside, also known as Soul Side, is a band with roots firmly planted in the Washington, D.C. punk and hardcore scene of the 1980s. They were part of the vibrant community surrounding the legendary Dischord Records, the label founded by Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson of Minor Threat, which helped to solidify the D.C. area's reputation as a hotbed for the hardcore punk movement. Soulside members included vocalist Bobby Sullivan, guitarist Scott McCloud, bassist Johnny Temple, and drummer Alexis Fleisig. They were known for their intense performances and socially conscious lyrics that resonated with the ethos of their scene.

After initially forming in 1985 under the name Lunchmeat, they quickly changed their name to Soulside and established themselves within the creative explosion of D.C.'s hardcore punk milieu. The band released a series of influential recordings through the latter half of the 1980s, culminating in their critically acclaimed album "Hot Bodi-Gram" originally released in 1989, which has since seen a 2022 remaster that rekindled interest in their pulsating, energetic sound. Although they disbanded in 1989 after a European tour, Soulside's members have occasionally reunited for performances, and they have continued to release new material, including "A Brief Moment in the Sun" and "This Ship." Their recent works exhibit the same fervent spirit and dedication to the craft that marked their earlier years, testifying to the band's enduring influence and legacy within the punk community.
