Latvian Radio Big Band

The Latvian Radio Big Band is a jazz powerhouse with deep roots in Latvia's musical history. Founded in 1966, this ensemble has been at the forefront of the country's jazz scene for decades. After a brief hiatus in the 1990s, the band was revived in 2012 and has since collaborated with international jazz stars like James Morrison, Randy Brecker, and Kurt Rosenwinkel. Known for their dynamic performances and innovative projects, the Latvian Radio Big Band continues to push boundaries in jazz, blending traditional big band sounds with contemporary influences.

Under the leadership of artistic director Kārlis Vanags, the band has released several acclaimed albums, including "IDENTITIES" and their contribution to the "Latvian Jazz Suite" series. They've earned nominations for Latvia's prestigious Grand Music Award and have performed at renowned venues like the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and Lincoln Center in New York.
