Incapacitants

Incapacitants are a legendary noise duo from Japan, widely recognized as pioneers in the harsh noise genre. Formed in the early 1980s by Toshiji Mikawa, who is also a member of the influential noise group Hijokaidan, the project later became a duo with the addition of Fumio Kosakai, known for his work with C.C.C.C. and other noise acts. Their sound is characterized by relentless waves of feedback, distorted electronics, and improvised chaos — a pure embodiment of what fans call "pure" noise.

Despite holding down regular day jobs (Mikawa has famously worked in banking), Incapacitants have maintained a prolific output over the decades, releasing numerous recordings and performing at venues and festivals around the world. Their commitment to sonic extremity and raw energy has earned them a cult following among experimental music fans, and their influence can be heard across generations of noise musicians globally.
