The Dwarfs of East Agouza

The Dwarfs of East Agouza is an avant-garde musical trio hailing from Cairo, Egypt, formed in 2012. Comprised of Alan Bishop (bass guitar, vocals, formerly of Sun City Girls), Maurice Louca (keyboards, drum machines, well-known for his work in the Egyptian alternative music scene), and Sam Shalabi (electric guitar, oud, a distinguished figure in Montreal’s experimental music community), the group concocts an eclectic blend of free jazz, psychedelic rock, and electronic improvisations. Their sound is marked by a hypnotic fusion of intense rhythmic sequences and sprawling sonic landscapes.

Their albums have captured the imagination of the global underground music community, with "Bes" being their debut release in 2016. The album quickly established them as a force of sonic innovation, drawing on the varied backgrounds of its members and their shared affinity for expansive musical adventures. Following the momentum, in 2020 they launched "The Green Dogs Of Dahshur," further cementing their reputation for crafting enigmatic audio journeys that defy simple categorization. Their most recent offering, "High Tide In The Lowlands," continues the group's abstraction and complexity, weaving together varied cultural influences that reflect the diverse lineage of the members. The Dwarfs of East Agouza stand as an emblem of the experimental, inviting listeners into a trance-inducing experience that transcends conventional musical boundaries.
