Mel & Kim

Mel & Kim were a British pop duo consisting of sisters Melanie and Kim Appleby, who achieved notable success in the late 1980s with their energetic brand of dance-pop music. The duo first came to the public eye with their debut single, "Showing Out (Get Fresh at the Weekend)" in 1986, which scored them a hit on both the UK and international charts. Their follow-up single, "Respectable," became an anthem of empowerment and their trademark song, propelling them further into the spotlight. Their style, a catchy fusion of pop and the then-cutting-edge house music, was quintessentially of its era and won them a legion of fans.

The release of their only studio album, "F.L.M.," in 1987 spawned additional hits, including the title track and "That's the Way It Is," fortifying their status as pop icons of the time. Tragically, their rise to fame was cut short when Mel was diagnosed with cancer. The sisters put their careers on hold as Mel underwent treatment, and she sadly passed away in 1990. Kim later pursued a solo career with some success. Decades later, the duo's music continues to resonate with fans both old and new, as evidenced by the remasters and remix singles released posthumously, such as the "F.L.M. (2023 Remaster)" and "Respectable (The Remix Singles)," which celebrate their vibrant legacy in the music industry.
